The Town of Buchanan and the Botetourt Artillery Chapter of the Sons of Confederate Veterans are proud to host the Annual Buchanan Civil War History Weekend. We invite you to join us for a memorable weekend filled with history, education, and community engagement.

The Buchanan Civil War History Weekend will take place throughout the entire weekend, with a variety of events and activites scheduled each day, taking place at Buchanan Town Park, located at 485 Lowe St.

This is a RAIN OR SHINE EVENT, so we encourage you to come out and enjoy the weekend no matter the forecast!

Interested in becoming part of the Botetourt Artillery? Members meet monthly on the 3rd Thursday each month. For more information or to get involved, contact Commander John Manspile at (540)520-3013.

Regrettably, due to unforeseen challenges and community feedback, the Garden Festival tentatively scheduled for May 2, 2026 will not be held.

It is our hope to bring this beloved and long-missed festival back in 2027 with the time and support needed to make it successful.

The Town of Buchanan is fortunate to have several Civic Organizations which help to improve the quality of life in our community. From large festivals to helping those in need, Buchanan’s volunteers touch many facets of community life. If you wish to be involved, check into one of the community’s organizations below.

Local Community Organizations

VFW Post 5895 - Members meet on the fourth Tuesday of each month at 7:00pm at New Freedom Farm located at 6118 Lithia Road. The contact person is Daniel Garrett and he may be reached at 907-982-3381

American Legion Post 93 - Members meet on the fourth Tuesday of each month at 8:00pm at New Freedom Farm located at 6118 Lithia Road. The contact person is Daniel Garrett and he may be reached at 907-982-3381

Buchanan Lions Club – Members of the Buchanan Lion’s Club meet on the second and fourth Tuesday of each month at 6:30pm at the Trinity United Methodist Chruch. For additional information contact Tim Heinlein at (540)450-6716. Find them on Facebook at Lions Club of Buchanan, Virginia.

Buchanan Town Improvement Society – The Buchanan Town improvement Society started in 1903. The group performs charitable activities with the emphasis of its work being the preservation of the historic Wilson Warehouse/Community House. This historic landmark is located on Lowe Street adjacent to the Buchanan Town Park. For additional information (540) 597-2399. FInd them on Facebook at Buchanan Town Improvement Society.

Friends of the Buchanan Library – Members of this organization meet on the first Tuesday of each month in the Buchanan Library. This group helps to organize fundraisers for the Buchanan Library as well as guest speakers throughout the year. For additional information check at the front desk of the Library. Solomon’s Mission – Solomon’s Mission is a non-profit charity in Buchanan, Virginia. The group collects and redistributes clothes and other goods from their location at 592 Lowe Street. Standing Room Only – Members of this nonprofit organization own and operate the Buchanan Theatre making it available for weekly movies, live performances throughout the year in addition to use by area schools and civic organizations for shows and fundraisers.
